The 2011 conference was hosted in the fabulous 5 Star ME Hotel, in the home of Antoni Gaudi himself Barcelona Spain, on the 20th and 21st of October 2011. The conference was addressed by some of the leading players in the fine art & specie insurance market, along with a number of high profile individuals from within the fine art, security and diamond industries.

Enrico Bertagna

Enrico Bertagna is the Lloyd’s Head of Southern, Eastern Europe and Africa. Having started his career in 1987 as a business consultant in an insurance agency, he went on to become the area manager for INA Assitalia group. After which he spent a year working for a Lloyd’s Broker in London, handling Italian business.

Enrico joined Lloyd’s in 1990, where he was working on underwriting issues and developing commercial relationships with Lloyd’s business partners in Italy. He was promoted to Lloyd’s General Representative for Italy in 1999.

Enrico is a member of the Lloyd’s Management Team, President of Lloyd’s in France, and a board member of Lloyds Ireland and Lloyd’s Polska, he is also the Chairman of the Italian Association of Young Insurers and Reinsurers.

Paul-Britton

Paul Britton MRICS FRSA is a Chartered Arts and Antiques Surveyor providing independent art appraisal and insurance claims consultancy services to those transacting in art. Clients include insurance companies, insurance brokers, loss adjustors and legal advisors.

Prior to establishing his own practice in 2006, Paul gained many years experience working within specialist sectors of the art market including conservation, auctioneering and valuation, acquiring extensive experience and developing close working relationships with specialist art advisors and leading practitioners within the fields of art insurance, law and conservation.

He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Institute of Art and Law, Institute of Conservation, the International Institute of Conservation and the UK Registrars Group.

Owen-Carragher

Owen B. Carragher focuses his practice on the representation of domestic and foreign insurers in matters throughout the United States. His expertise extends to a wide variety of insurance products and policies, including first party property, jewellers’ block, fine arts, cargo, bankers’ blanket bond, business interruption, fidelity, contingency and special events, commercial liability, and directors and officers liability. As a result of the depth and breadth of his experience, Owen is frequently asked to lecture on insurance, litigation and risk management issues. He is AV rated – preeminent in his fields – by his peers.

Prior to founding Lankler & Carragher, LLP, Owen served for seven years as an assistant district attorney in the Rackets Bureau, Organized Crime Narcotics Unit, Special Prosecutions Bureau and Trial Division of the New York County District Attorney’s Office.

Mark-Dalrymple

Mark Dalrymple is Managing Director of Tyler & Co. who have practised in the City of London since 1987 as Chartered Loss Adjusters. As a fine art & antiques valuer for the first 13 years of his career and thence as a loss adjuster for the past 30 years, Mark works primarily for the London Market Insurers and Lloyd’s Underwriters, specialising in high value/complex insurance claims, liabilities and losses involving fine arts and antiques.

Mark has specialist experience in the claims and recovery procedures involving theft of major works, particularly notable losses including the theft of a Titian painting valued at £8 million, two Turner paintings valued at £24 million, a collection of works including 2 Goya’s valued in excess of £15m, and the theft and subsequent recovery of Duke of Buccleuch’s da Vinci valued in excess of £40m.

Annabel Fell-Clark

Annabel Fell-Clark joined the Lloyd’s insurance market in 1995 as a graduate trainee with Hiscox Syndicate 33. She took over writing the Fine Art account at the end of 1998, then moved to the AIG backed Reith syndicate 1414 in early 2002 to start up a Fine Art account there.

Annabel began working at AXA Art in August 2005, becoming CEO of the UK subsidiary in early 2007. AXA Art is in its 50th year of insuring art – the first policy was written by the marine department of Nordstern in Paris in 1961 – and is present in all the major art markets of the world.

The UK company is responsible for the British, Irish, Australian, New Zealand, Asian and Norwegian territories in the group and writes international business through the London Market broker network.

SERENA FRANCE-HAYHURST

Serena France-Hayhurst is currently on the Aon graduate scheme having joined the company in September 2010. Serena achieved a 2:1 in French and History of Art at the University of Bristol in 2010. Her third year was spent in Paris during which time she worked for Gurr Johns. Her work experience in the art world also includes working for Gurr Johns, London and in the Fine Jewellery department at Christie’s, London.

Rob-Hawes

Rob Hawes started his career in the London insurance market as a marine claims examiner over 20 years ago in Lloyd’s Claims Office. Now Chief Adjuster of Marine claims, for Hull, Cargo and Specie at Xchanging, Rob has extensive experience of handling large and complex Fine Art and Specie insurance claims both as a leader and as representative of following Lloyd’s and Company markets.

Rob is responsible for delivery of the marine & specie claims function at Xchanging, encompassing a team of 25 claims adjusters handling circa 50,000 claims transactions per annum. Rob previously handled claims for a Lloyd’s syndicate and at the Commercial Union before that.

Rob is a member of the London Insurance market’s Joint Marine Claims and sits on the LMA’s Joint Cargo Committee, considering cross market claims and related Underwriting issues for the above classes of business.

Itay-Hendel

Itay Hendel is part owner of ISPS and serves as the company’s business development manager. With a background and experience in loss prevention, Itay partnered up with Yohanan Hadari at ISPS, which has proven for six years that there is a successful way to prevent significant damages and loss to the diamond and jewelry industry.

The company conducts awareness training, theoretical and practical, which provides to those in the industry essential tools to implement, in preventive behaviour and early detection of criminal activity. ISPS has saved millions of dollars in loss prevention in recent years, operates in many countries, and works closely with all factors of the insurance world.

Richard-Krasilovsky

Richard Krasilovsky is the President of Empire Safe Company of New York, a family business established in 1904. Since joining the company in 1977, his primary focus has been in the design, marketing and supply of high security safes and vault rooms for the world’s leading jewellers and diamond houses in the USA and abroad.

Working closely with underwriters in developing individualised burglary security solutions for customers. His deep understanding of clients’ operations have helped him create intelligent physical security environments that have increased organization and efficiency as well as limited damages to their valuable inventories.

Don-Palmieri

Donald A. Palmieri, jewellery appraiser, forensic expert, consultant and broker, is President and founder of Gem Certification & Assurance Lab, Inc. (GCAL), an ISO 17025 Accredited Laboratory. Don is also the President of Gemological Appraisal Association, Inc., publisher of Palmieri’s Market Monitor®, Chairman of Gemprint Corporation, and is currently serving as Chapter 11 Trustee in a $40 million diamond manufacturer bankruptcy case, appointed by the US Trustee, New York Southern District.

Don has worked in all levels of the jewellery and gemstone profession during his 45-year career, attaining advanced gemological and appraisal certifications, including Master Gemologist Appraiser®.

Philip-Turner

Philip C. Turner is a Managing Director of the Specie Practice of Marsh Ltd., based in London. For the past 25 years Philip has led one of the larger Specie teams in the London market. In this role, Philip is responsible for handling a worldwide client base. His team is experienced in the placement of Global multi layered programmes.

Philip has been an insurance broker for 36 years, specialising in Specie and specifically the insurance of Cash, Precious Metals, Securities, Fine Art and even stamps!
