About Roy Coppins

The Under 35’s Scholarship is the legacy of Roy Coppins, who as CEO and a founding member of our executive committee forged a path for us to help the industry to flourish. It is his gift to the younger generation – a chance for budding talent to make their first foray into a rewarding career in the fine art and specie insurance market.

Roy led our charity from the inception of the executive committee in 2010 until he lost his long-running battle with cancer in April 2013. He brought a wealth of knowledge, humour and foresight to the organisation, expertly guiding us to assist with furthering opportunities for personal development and business connections in the industry. He launched the scholarship in 2011 as a provision for ambitious young people and was personally involved in ensuring its success until his passing.

His distinguished international insurance career began in 1966, when he joined Ipswich company Willis Faber & Dumas. He then moved to Zurich Re in 1991, where he first specialised in fine art and specie. Additional achievements during this period included acting as chairman of both The Joint Claims Committee and The Company and Lloyd’s Adjusters of Claims Meetings. In 2005, he joined GE Insurance Solutions, which was subsequently acquired by Swiss Re, as a Senior Vice President before later co-founding Ifasic.

About Our Scholarship

By founding the scholarship, Roy realised his vision of challenging aspiring young fine art and specie insurers to demonstrate their passion for the industry to the world’s leading experts. An advocate of education, he encouraged them to reach their full potential and confidently share their views on their chosen topic with the audience. This invaluable opportunity gives our candidates the chance to enhance their knowledge and network with important contacts for their future career.

The process is very competitive and just one scholarship recipient will be selected from our pool of applicants each year. The successful candidate will be offered professional coaching by our team before travelling to our host city for a stay in one of its finest luxury hotels, where the two-day conference will take place. In addition to delivering their presentation to an audience of 250 delegates, our candidate will be able to further their understanding and gain new industry insights at our programme of presentations and workshops.

Our Sponsors

Our sponsors are made up of some of the leading players in the market. As a result of their support, we are able to offer our delegates places at ifasic events at less than actual cost price
